BNUZ-SMU Research and Academic Skill Building Symposium

November 16th and 17th 2018 at Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, China

Call for Papers

 

DESCRIPTION:

The aim of this biannual symposium is to extend the current academic partnership between BNUZ and SMU to the next level with multiple objectives. First, the symposium aims to provide opportunities for academics from a range of disciplines in both the schools to share their research. Second, the symposium will provide research and academic workshop for faculty skill building at BNUZ and SMU. Finally, the symposium will offer research collaboration opportunities across the two institutions. In the first edition ,International Business Faculty, Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai (BNUZ) and Sobey School of Business, Saint Mary’s University (SMU) are pleased to invite submissions for its 1st biannual symposium, to be held on November 16-17, 2018, at the Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, China. Extended abstracts (preferably the completed work) on any topic related to business will be considered. Each author is restricted to one submission.

REVIEW COMMITTEE:

Extended abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by two faculty members, one each at BNUZ and SMU, taken from the relevant fields. The committee members include, among others, Dr. Dexin Zhang, Dr. Hui Zhou, Dr. Lu Guan, Dr. Yunqi Wang and Dr. Lei Chen from BNUZ and Dr. Catherine Loughlin, Dr. Miguel Morales and Dr. Rahman Khokhar from SMU.

 

ABSTRACT/ WORKING PAPER/ POWER POINT(PPT) SUBMISSION:

Sobey School of Business faculties are invited to submit an extended abstract or completed working paper in any area of business (for the Working Paper Sharing Part). International Business Faculty faculties are invited to submit an abstract, working paper, or PPT in research methodology or teaching pedagogy, etc.(for the Workshop Discussion Part). Both empirical and theoretical contributions are welcome. English will be the writing and working language during submitting papers and PPT, presentations and discussions. All papers you provide (in PDF format), or abstract, or PPT should be sent to Rahman.Khokhar@smu.ca (for SMU) or 526587574@qq.com (for BNUZ). The extended abstract must include objectives, research methodology, findings, and contributions. Deadline for submission are 22nd July 2018 (for SMU), and 11th September, 2018 (for BNUZ). Notice of Acceptance will be sent by 24th August 2018 (for SMU), and 21st September, 2018 (for BNUZ).

The Possible Topics in the Workshop, Dr. Miguel suggests, are as follows:

1.  Availability of secondary data. How to find/collect economic and financial data of Chinese private firms and SOEs

2.  Impact and challenges of recent U.S. tariffs on Chinese private firms and SOEs. Analysis and perspectives.

3.  State of social science research and business research (i.e. management and marketing) in China. What are the challenges of doing social science and business research in China?

4.  BNUZ is moving to tier 1 category. What are the implications for BNUZ in terms of research and what are its expectations from current academic partners such as SMU?

5.  Case writing. Is writing cases on Chinese enterprises unique?  What are the similarities and differences in writing case studies in China?

6.  Faculty teaching. What can foreign faculty do to enhance the learning experience of Chinese students?
